~ Dolls ~

I make different types of dolls... folk art, early style, vintage, or whimsical. Some dolls may have a recognizable period look to them, while others will reflect my mood and whimsy of the day. Some will have new fabrics and some will have old textiles saved from times past. All will be unique. I do not use purchased patterns. I have made my own by sketching the doll shape. I usually make the clothing as I work, cutting and hand sewing to fit the doll's proportions. Some dolls will be simple and unadorned, while some will be embellished with trinkets and baubles found during my junk shop trips. My dolls are made with toys of long ago in mind. All are signed and dated.

SISTERS ~ Charlotte, Anne, & Emily

For there is no friend like a sister in calm or stormy weather, to cheer one on the tedious way, to fetch one if one goes astray, to lift one if one totters down, to strengthen whilst one stands." Christina Rossetti

These dolls were inspired by the German peg wooden / tuck comb dolls of the early 19th century. Though not carved from wood, each of these has a cloth body and a hand sculpted head and shoulders. Each doll comes with her own handmade wooden stand which has been painted and very lightly distressed. The dolls may be removed and displayed without the stands. All clothing is hand sewn.

I have a cloth doll that my Mom made for me when I was a little girl. Her face is hand drawn and she wears a dark blue velvet dress with white lace trim and a white petticoat and pantalets. I was so thrilled with her when Mom gave her to me and I promptly named her Victoria. A photo will be posted soon as Victoria is presentable. She's suffered a little wear and tear over the past 30 years.
